The Compact River Gem

What Is Bucephalandra ‘Mini Clump’?

Bucephalandra ‘Mini Clump’ is a small-growing Bucephalandra known for its compact size and tight clustering habit. The name “Mini Clump” refers to its ability to form small, dense groups of leaves, making it ideal for detailed aquascapes.

Like all Bucephalandra, it originates from Borneo and naturally grows attached to rocks and driftwood along jungle streams. It is a true aquatic plant that can grow fully submerged in aquariums or emersed in high-humidity environments.

Because of its small size, it is especially popular in nano tanks and foreground placements.

How It Grows

This plant grows from a short creeping rhizome and forms tight, compact clusters. It spreads slowly and stays low in height.

Growth is slow under stable aquarium conditions.

The Leaves

The leaves are small and neat.

  • Color: medium to deep green

  • Surface: smooth with slight natural sheen

  • Shape: oval to slightly rounded

Its compact leaf size makes it ideal for small-scale layouts.

Light Needs

Prefers low to medium light.

  • Moderate light supports healthy growth

  • Avoid excessive lighting to reduce algae risk

Stable lighting helps maintain compact growth.

Water & Aquarium Conditions

  • Attach to rock or driftwood

  • Do not bury the rhizome

  • Thrives in clean, well-circulated water

  • CO₂ is optional but can improve growth

  • Ideal temperature: 22–28°C

Stable water parameters are important.

Growing Environment

Best suited for:

  • Freshwater aquariums

  • Nano tanks

  • Foreground or midground placement

  • Paludariums (emersed form)

Care Level

Low care.

  • Suitable for beginners

  • Slow-growing and easy to manage

  • Minimal trimming required

Handling Note

Always keep the rhizome above the substrate to prevent rot. Once attached and settled, Bucephalandra ‘Mini Clump’ will grow slowly and form neat, compact clusters over time.
