The Windowed Jungle Form

What Is Monstera fenestrata ‘Culum’?

Monstera fenestrata ‘Culum’ (often traded simply as Fenestratum Culum) is a tropical aroid known for its fenestrated, or naturally split and perforated, leaves. The name “fenestrata” refers to the window-like holes that develop as the plant matures.

This plant grows in warm, humid rainforest environments where it climbs trees using aerial roots. It is not an aquatic plant and should never be submerged. Instead, it thrives in well-draining soil with bright, indirect light and good humidity.

As it matures, the leaves become larger and develop more splits or openings, giving the plant a bold, dramatic appearance.

Structural and tropical, Fenestratum Culum is ideal for indoor plant lovers who enjoy large, statement foliage.

How It Grows

This plant is a climbing species. It produces aerial roots and benefits from a moss pole or support.

Growth is moderate to fast under warm, bright conditions.

The Leaves

The leaves are large and dramatic.

  • Color: bright to deep green

  • Surface: smooth with natural sheen

  • Shape: broad with splits or holes as the plant matures

Young leaves may start solid and develop fenestrations over time.

Light Needs

Prefers bright, indirect light.

  • Avoid direct sunlight

  • Good light encourages larger leaves and stronger fenestrations

Low light may reduce leaf size and splitting.

Water & Growing Conditions

  • Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry

  • Use airy, well-draining soil mix

  • Prefers moderate to high humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 20–30°C

Avoid waterlogged soil to prevent root rot.

Growing Environment

Best suited for:

  • Indoor tropical plant collections

  • Bright rooms with indirect light

  • Spaces with vertical support

Not suitable for aquariums or submerged setups.

Care Level

Low to medium care.

  • Suitable for beginners

  • Fast grower with proper support

  • Benefits from occasional pruning

Handling Note

Provide a climbing support to encourage larger, mature leaves. With stable light and humidity, Fenestratum Culum will develop impressive fenestrations and a strong tropical presence.
