The Tea Red River Glow

What Is Bucephalandra ‘Teared’?

Bucephalandra ‘Teared’ is a colorful Bucephalandra variety known for its warm reddish tones mixed with deep green leaves. The name “Teared” is often associated with tea-like red or bronze coloration that appears under proper lighting.

Like all Bucephalandra, it originates from Borneo and naturally grows attached to rocks and driftwood in fast-flowing jungle streams. It is a true aquatic plant that can grow fully submerged in aquariums or emersed in humid environments.

This variety is appreciated for its smooth leaves and shifting colors, which may range from green to bronze or red depending on light intensity and tank conditions.

Warm and expressive, Bucephalandra ‘Teared’ adds subtle red contrast to planted aquariums.

How It Grows

This plant grows from a creeping rhizome that attaches securely to rocks or driftwood. It spreads slowly and forms compact clusters over time.

Growth is slow under stable aquarium conditions.

The Leaves

The leaves are smooth and slightly elongated.

  • Color: green with bronze to reddish tones

  • Surface: smooth with subtle natural sheen

  • Shape: oval to slightly narrow

Red tones become more visible under moderate lighting.

Light Needs

Prefers low to medium light.

  • Moderate light enhances red coloration

  • Avoid strong lighting to reduce algae growth

Stable lighting supports consistent color development.

Water & Aquarium Conditions

  • Attach to rock or driftwood

  • Do not bury the rhizome

  • Thrives in clean, well-circulated water

  • CO₂ is optional but improves growth and color

  • Ideal temperature: 22–28°C

Stable water parameters are important.

Growing Environment

Best suited for:

  • Freshwater aquariums

  • Nano tanks

  • Contrast-focused aquascapes

  • Paludariums (emersed form)

Care Level

Low to medium care.

  • Suitable for beginners

  • Slow-growing and easy to maintain

  • Minimal trimming required

Handling Note

Always keep the rhizome above the substrate to prevent rot. Once attached and stable, Bucephalandra ‘Teared’ will grow steadily and show deeper red tones over time.
